Praise is far more than a simple song or a Sunday morning ritual; it is a dynamic spiritual response that honors God, shifts the atmosphere, and positions every believer for victory. When we praise, we are not just making music; we are declaring God’s worth, His greatness, and His unwavering faithfulness.
The Foundation of Praise
The foundation of our praise can be found in Psalm 150, which serves as the "grand finale" of the book of Psalms. This scripture is a pure, unrestrained call for all of creation to acknowledge and magnify God’s majesty and power. We are called to praise Him in His sanctuary—which for us today means both the gathered church and the spiritual temple of the Holy Spirit within us—and in the "mighty heavens," the cosmic realm where His glory dwells.
Why and How We Praise
Biblically, we praise God for two profound reasons: His "mighty acts" (what He does) and His "excellent greatness" (who He is). This expression is meant to be diverse and unified, utilizing a "diverse orchestra" of instruments and movements.
The Trumpet: Symbolizes divine communication and the triumph of a King’s arrival.
The Harp and Lyre: Represent a bridge between heaven and earth, often bringing healing and emotional restoration.
Timbrels and Dancing: Signify joy, the freedom of the spirit, and victory over adversity.
Clashing Cymbals: In the context of Psalm 150, these represent a joyful and uncontainable expression of passion for the Divine.
